Children are born with a natural instinct for creativity but it is lost gradually as they start growing in a structured, and standardized environment. So it is necessary to put them in an environment where their creativity improves regularly.

Unsure how to start? This article is for parents like you who want to encourage their child's creativity but are not sure where to start. So here are some tips that can help you to inspire your child’s creativity on a regular basis.

Tips to Inspire Child to Do Creativity Regularly:

Introduce Creative Activities

Creative activities nurture a child's imagination. Children need your support, they need encouragement to get started so it is always the responsibility of parents to introduce them to creative activities. Introduce them to singing, dancing, drawing or any other activity that fosters creativity so that they know what they like, it will also help you to understand their creativity and natural talents.

Do not Force

Embrace your child's interest and do not force them to do something they don’t want to try. As parents, you need to help them by introducing various creative activities and then let them do what they want to do. Pushing them to do something else will make them feel stressed and disinterested.

Ask Questions

By asking questions frequently, you are helping them to think and brainstorm and you are also inculcating a natural habit of asking questions in them. For eg:-Why is the sky blue? Grasses green? Anything which they are doing or playing or eating can be turned into a learning session by asking the question and you will be surprised to know their imaginative answers and how they think.

Nurture Problem-solving Skills

Using regular day activities to demonstrate to them that there are more ways to do the same thing will help them to think from all perspectives. For example, Pencils can be used for writing as well as sketching and can be used as tiny stumps or drumsticks etc. Show them different ways of doing things and they will start to think from all perspectives.

Give Them Time to Be Bored

Children these days are hardly idle, they are always busy doing something, For eg:- attending pre-school, doing daily chores, watching their favourite cartoons, playing games, etc They do not get the time to think about how they can entertain themselves or what are other things they can do? So giving them some free time will help them to figure new ways of keeping them engaged.

Schedule Daily Hours for Creativity

By scheduling a few hours daily for creativity will help your child in developing motor skills, concentration, and communication. You will also teach them the importance of creativity and how to manage things and take out time for the things you love. Dedicating a small place in your home for a creative schedule can be the best thing to do for your child.

Teach them Productivity

Make sure whatever they are doing is inducing productivity in them. For eg:- Their screen time can be productive sessions; if the games, videos or apps they use, are educating and inspiring their imagination. Install some productive games, videos so that they can make better use of their time.

Let them make Mistakes

Parents should not shout when children make mistakes; they should be taught why it is wrong and what can be the results. Let them make errors and help them to figure it out. When you focus on correcting mistakes, you are teaching them perfectionism rather than exploration and imagination and it will also put fears in their mind to try new things.

Lessons

It’s great to immerse children in projects but asking them what they have learnt or what are their takeaway lessons from the project or play will help them to recollect and memorise the good or bad part. It will also help them to know what they have understood or what motivated and inspired them.

Talk to your child

Ask your child what they feel? Are they facing any difficulty? Tell them to express their feelings, emotions etc as it will help them to open up. You can share your strategy with them to tackle any problem, this will help them to have a better understanding of how to do it.

Creativity starts with you

Children learn mostly by watching their parents or friends; so it is necessary that parents should involve themselves in creative sessions like cooking, sculpting, or painting. Surrounding your children with creative things and creative people will help them to be creative.

Small things that foster creativity

1. When your child asks for help, don't immediately gratify by answering. Instead, ask them to figure out and help them to think from all perspectives.

2. When playing or during any activity session, do not guide, ask them to guide you.

3. Show them how to fix home repairs using online tutorials; demonstration can be the right way to inspire them and teaching them problem-solving skills

4. Let your kids get dirty. Allow them to play in the rain or muddy playground for a few hours to make them feel free and happy.

5. Introduce them to new productive apps, games, videos.

6. Ask questions related to activities or ask them to help to figure out the solutions for problems.

7. Ask an open-ended question to get your child thinking creatively

8. Allow them to do things in their way; let them choose and decide

9. Always praise your child's effort

10. Encourage the kids to try new things that they've never done before.

11. Paint your children’s walls with art and other creative stuff.

12. Give your children the opportunity to express themselves.

Encouraging creativity in a child in the early years helps them to be out of the box thinker. Creative people are more flexible, easily adapt to technological advances which help them for new opportunities.

Parents assume that creativity is an inborn talent but creativity is a skill that can be developed by daily practice sessions. Children need support to develop their creative capacities and reach their higher potential.
